INFORMATION TO BE GIVEN ABOUT REASON OF THE FIRE IN HAYDARPASA TRAIN STATION AFTER REPORT OF FIRE
ISTANBUL - Istanbul Governor Huseyin Avni Mutlu said on Sunday that they would give information about the reason of the fire in Haydarpasa Train Station in Istanbul following technical report of the fire department.
Governor Mutlu told reporters that the blazes mostly damaged roof of the train station, and noted that the fire was taken under control totally thanks to the rapid intervention of the fireboats from the sea.
"The fire has been put under control, there are no casualties," Mutlu said.
Separately, Transportation Ministry Deputy Undersecretary Talat Aydin said train trips which were halted in Haydarpasa because of the fire could resume soon.
Aydin said the fire may have erupted because of the isolation works carried out on the roof of the train station. He said the fire did not spread ground floor and the roof did not collapse.
"We think that the destruction on the roof is not much. We got off this danger slightly. We are grateful for the efforts of Coastal Safety Directorate," he said.
Aydin denied suspicions for arson attack, and noted that necessary investigation would be carried out against the fire.
A fire broke out at the roof of the historic Haydarpasa Train Station in Istanbul at 3.30 pm on Sunday. All the fire-fighters in Anatolian side of Istanbul battled the blaze that engulfed the roof of train station during repair works.
Personnel was totally evacuated and tight security measures were taken against risk of explosion. There are no casualties after the fire which could be extinguished in an hour.
