BODRUM - Ahmet Altiparmak, the governor of the
southwestern Turkish province of Mugla, said that the fire in the
popular resort town of Bodrum was taken under control.

The fire which broke out in a trash pile quickly spread to wooded area due to heavy winds. Fire-fighting teams and forestry workers rushed to the town from the neighboring places to extinguish the fire. Residents also joined efforts to contain the fire. The road leading to the neighboring town of Milas was closed to traffic to allow fire-fighting vehicles to move fast.
As a result of intense efforts, the fire was partly taken under control before sunrise. Some ten hectares of wooded area was damaged in the fire. Efforts backed by a plane and two helicopters are under way to contain the fire completely.
