ISTANBUL
Chairwoman of Turkish conglomerate "Sabanci Holding" has received The Clinton Global Citizen Award from the United States, a holding statement said on Friday.
The Clinton Global Initiative, established by former U.S. president Bill Clinton, honored Sabanci Holding's Executive Board President Guler Sabanci with the Clinton Global Citizen Award in a ceremony in New York on Thursday.
Sabanci got the award in Leadership in Corporate Sector category, thanks to her contributions to women and girls and her initiatives for social, cultural and economic development of Turkey.
"Our new vision is to create a sustainable change in business, philanthrophy, education and arts, and in every are we are working on," Sabanci said as she received the award.
Sabanci said there were still things to be done to eliminate inequalities in the globalizing world, adding that there was need for efficient cooperation in this issue.
Musician and Rainforest Fund's founder Sting and his wife Trudie Styler got the award in leadership in philanthropy, The Panzi Hospital of Bukavu's founder and doctor Denis Mukwege received leadership in civil society award.
Injaz Morocco's Executive Board President and CEO Mhammed Abbad Andaloussi was also honored with leadership in civil society award, whereas UNITAID's head Philippe Douste-Blazy got leadership in public service award.
Earlier winners of the awards were Coca Cola's former president Neville Isdell, Avon's Executive Board chairperson and CEO Andrea Jung, and TNT's CEO Paul Bakker.
