GAZA CITY

An Anadolu Agency team has toured an underground tunnel used by Palestinian resistance fighters to fight Israeli troops during Israel's recent military offensive against the embattled Gaza Strip.

"We use this tunnel to fire mortar shells at Israeli concentrations," a member of the Saraya al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad movement, told AA on Tuesday.

Inside the tunnel, a rocket launcher had been positioned to fire rockets at Israeli targets.

"Our fighters have used this tunnel to launch rockets at the [Israeli] enemy," the Brigades member said.

He claimed Saraya al-Quds Brigades fighters had killed 28 Israeli soldiers and fired some 2400 rockets at the self-proclaimed Jewish state during Israel's recent military offensive against the Gaza Strip.

At least 1944 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 10,000 others injured – the vast majority of them civilians – in relentless Israeli attacks on the strip since July 7.

According to Israeli figures, at least 64 Israeli soldiers have been killed in battles with Palestinian fighters inside the coastal enclave, while three civilians have been killed by Palestinian rocket fire.

Israel and Gaza-based Palestinian factions are currently observing a three-day truce that went into effect on Monday to coincide with indirect talks in Cairo aimed at hammering out a permanent ceasefire.
