65 prisoners released from Bagram jail in Afghanistan
U.S. condemns the move saying that those released are responsible for the deaths of civilians and members of coalition and Afghan forces.
KABUL
65 out of 88 prisoners rated as dangerous by the United States have been released from Bagram prison in Parwan city of Afghanistan on Thursday morning, in a statement from the Ministry of Defence.
Two days ago, Afghanistan Prosecutor General’s Spokesman Basir Azizthat announced that 65 prisoners would be set free because of the lack of evidence to incriminate them.
The prisoners kept at Bagram prison which is similar to Guantanamo and Abu Gharaib prisons had been turned over to Afghan authorities by the U.S. authorities a year ago. The Afghan government had appointed an inspection committee to expedite individual cases of these prisoners.
Meanwhile, U.S. Embassy in Kabul condemned and deplored the move, saying that the persons are responsible for the deaths of civilians and members of coalition and Afghan forces.
