The incident began at roughly 9:30 a.m. local time (1330 GMT) when officers confronted a woman who "appeared agitated and was carrying a baseball bat" near the Capitol, police said in a statement. At that point the woman allegedly was not cooperative, and began yelling at the officers.

“When she raised the bat, the officers attempted to take it," police said in a statement. "In that moment, the woman became combative and bit one of the officers."

Capitol Police identified the suspect as Olivia Romero, 25.
