ISTANBUL
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Thursday the £250 billion ($338.8 billion) investment agreement signed between the US and the UK is the largest agreement in this field in British history and will create jobs for 15,000 people.
Addressing the business representatives at a reception held at Chequers, the Prime Minister's office in Aylesbury, Starmer stated that the UK-US relationship is a special one, noting that the ties between the two countries are the foundation of US-UK security, freedom, and prosperity.
"Together, we support over 2.5 million jobs in both our countries," Starmer said, adding that the US is the UK's largest trading partner.
"It is the biggest investment package of its kind in British history. It means a life-changing investment across the UK. We expect it to create 15,000 jobs in Belfast, Birmingham, Hartlepool, the Humber, and well beyond."
Emphasizing that the UK is the only country in the West, other than the US, with a trillion-dollar technology sector, home to top universities, and boasting the second-highest number of Nobel Prize winners after the US, Starmer also announced that they would sign a technology cooperation agreement with Trump.
Starmer emphasized that several US technology companies will invest in the UK as part of this agreement.
He noted that technology needs energy, and that they signed the new civil nuclear power agreement to support this "revolution."
Trump stated the investment agreement is already helping spur a massive wave of private sector deals worth over $350 million, adding that this will further strengthen their friendship with the UK.
Emphasizing that artificial intelligence is taking over the world, Trump said: "You're taking over the world Jensen (Nvidia CEO), I don't know what you're doing here."
The US president noted that investments in the US this year will exceed $17 trillion, a figure that has never been reached before.
Noting that they have profited trillions of dollars from tariffs imposed on other countries' goods, Trump pointed out that this is the only way to attract large amounts of investment to the US.
Arguing that the US has the largest economy in history during his first term as president, Trump announced that he will reduce government regulations on companies even more significantly than before.
The US-UK deal includes investments in the AI infrastructure and research, quantum technologies, civil nuclear energy, and telecommunications infrastructure and cyber, according to a statement by the UK government.
