US stock exchanges closed mixed on Monday.

The Dow Jones was up 54 points, or 0.16%, to finish the day at 34,337.

The S&P 500, on the other hand, fell 3.69 points, or 0.08%, to 4,411. The Nasdaq lost 30 points, or 0.22%, to 13,767.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 4.2% to 14.76. The 10-year US Treasury yield added 0.28% to 4.640%.

The dollar index decreased 0.19% to 105.66, while the euro was up 0.17% to $1.0699 against the greenback.

Precious metals were on the rise, with gold adding 0.43% to $1,946 an ounce and silver increasing 0.2% to $22.31.

Oil prices rose around 1.7%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $82.77 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $78.49.
