WASHINGTON
U.S. stocks fell sharply on Friday, with the S&P 500 and Dow recording their worst week in years.
The S&P was down 3.5 percent for the week. It was its worst showing since May 2012.
The Dow Jones industrial average dropped fell 315.51 points, or 1.79 percent – its worst week since November 2011. The Nasdaq Composite also fell 54.57 points, a 1.16 percent loss.
Uncertainty about oil prices and the speed of the contraction in the Chinese economy fuelled the sell-off on Wall Street.
The International Energy Agency said Friday that because of lower than expected economic growth, the 2015 global demand for crude oil will decrease by 230,000 barrels per day to 93.3 million barrels.
Also, Chinese manufacturing declined to 7.2 percent in November from 7.7 percent in October.
