US scrambles fighter jets after aircraft violates Trump airspace in New Jersey
Jets escort plane out of area after deploying flares 'to draw the pilot’s attention,' says US Northern Command

WASHINGTON
The US military scrambled fighter jets Sunday after a civilian aircraft entered restricted airspace over President Donald Trump's Bedminster, New Jersey golf club.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) said the fighter jets escorted the plane out of the area after deploying flares "to draw the pilot’s attention" during the intercept over the golf course where Trump was staying over the weekend. Another plane was intercepted earlier Sunday, it said in a statement.
"The flares – which may have been visible to the public – are employed with the highest regard for the safety of the intercepted aircraft and people on the ground. Flares burn out quickly and completely and there is no danger to the people on the ground when dispensed," it said.
"General aviation pilots are reminded to verify all Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) and Fly Informed before every flight; in the instance of the Bedminster, New Jersey region," it added.
NORAD said there were a total of five airspace violations over the weekend, though it is unclear if all were over Trump's New Jersey golf course.
Trump National Golf Club Bedminster is located roughly 45 minutes west of New York City.
