WASHINGTON

US police officers shot and killed a man in the secure zone surrounding the Republican National Convention in the state of Wisconsin on Tuesday, according to the media.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported the shooting took place near North 14th and West Vliet streets in Milwaukee -- less than a mile from the security perimeter for the convention.

New York Post reported that the man was wielding two knives, swinging them toward police before the shooting, citing a witness.

The incident came days after former President Donald Trump, who is seeking reelection, was the subject of an attempted assassination during a rally in the US state of Pennsylvania on Saturday. He appeared at the convention Monday with an injury to his right ear.

Trump was officially nominated Monday as the Republican Party's candidate for the November presidential election.
