US lawmaker moves to impeach attorney general over alleged withholding of Epstein files
Rep. Shri Thanedar accuses Pam Bondi of obstructing Congress and failing to release documents tied to Jeffrey Epstein
ISTANBUL
US Rep. Shri Thanedar on Thursday introduced articles of impeachment against Attorney General Pam Bondi over her handling of files related to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Thanedar filed three articles of impeachment accusing Bondi of obstruction of Congress, dereliction of duty and obstruction of justice, as well as weaponizing and politicizing the Justice Department.
He alleged that Bondi is “illegally withholding millions of Epstein files” despite a law passed by Congress requiring the Justice Department to release all documents related to the late billionaire and convicted sex offender.
“Her conduct is a spit in the face to survivors everywhere, and we cannot allow it to continue,” Thanedar said.
Earlier, the House Oversight Committee voted on a bipartisan basis to subpoena Bondi over the Epstein files after Rep. Nancy Mace introduced the motion, which was supported by all Democrats and four Republicans.
The move marks the third time since US President Donald Trump took office last year that Thanedar has sought to impeach either the president or a Cabinet official, though none of those efforts has gained significant support from Democrats or the Republican-controlled House.
