US intelligence assessments show no signs of imminent regime collapse in Iran: Report

ISTANBUL

American intelligence assessments show no signs that the Iranian regime is on the verge of collapse, CNN reported Thursday, referring to nearly two weeks into the US-Israeli joint attacks on Iran.

The US-Israeli joint attacks on Iran, which continued for nearly two weeks, have not yet posed a serious threat to the regime's hold on power, according to the assessments conveyed to the news outlet by two people familiar with the development in the Middle East.

There has been no immediate confirmation or refusal of the reports.

The findings complicate the picture US President Donald Trump has sought to project. He has claimed Iran's military has been largely decimated, its navy sunk, its air force grounded, and its missile stockpiles depleted and has repeatedly suggested the operation was running ahead of schedule. Washington's stated objectives include destroying Iran's missile capabilities, preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons, and cutting off its alleged support for armed groups across the region.

Tensions gripped the Middle East after Israel and the US launched joint attacks on Iran on Feb. 28 and have so far killed more than 1,300 people, including Ali Khamenei, the country's former supreme leader, and more than 150 schoolgirls. More than 10,000 people were also injured in the Israeli and US attacks.

Tehran retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf countries hosting US military assets. Eight US service members have been killed since the war began.
