US ambassador to Israel says God spared Trump for him to be 'the most consequential President'

ISTANBUL

US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee told President Donald Trump that God spared him from an assassination to become "the most consequential President in a century-maybe ever.”

Huckabee, in a message Trump shared Tuesday on Truth Social, referenced the Butler, Pennsylvania shooting, where he survived an assassination attempt while speaking at an open-air campaign rally.

“No President in my lifetime has been in a position like yours. Not since (Harry) Truman in 1945," he wrote.

The ambassador's vague reference to “Truman in 1945” came amid escalating Israel-Iran attacks and reports of Tel Aviv urging US involvement. In 1945, Truman authorized nuclear strikes on Japan, ending World War II -- context now stirring speculation about the US' intentions as Trump said he wants "a real end" to the conflict.

"The decisions on your shoulders I would not want to be made by anyone else," Huckabee wrote.

Huckabee told Trump he does not frequently seek the president's presence because he trusts Trump's instincts. "I do not reach out to persuade you. Only to encourage you," he wrote.

The ambassador pledged unwavering commitment to his Israel post, saying: "You sent me to Israel to be your eyes, ears and voice and to make sure our flag flies above our embassy. My job is to be the last one to leave.”
