US adds 227,000 jobs in November, exceeding forecast

ANKARA
The US economy delivered a strong performance in November, adding 227,000 jobs and surpassing market forecasts, according to data released Friday by the Labor Department.
Economists had anticipated a gain of 202,000 jobs in nonfarm payrolls for the month.
Sectors driving the growth included health care, leisure and hospitality, government, and social assistance, while retail trade saw job losses.
October's job additions were adjusted upward by 36,000, from 12,000.
The unemployment rate edged up to 4.2% in November, meeting estimates.
The number of unemployed people was 7.1 million in November, while the labor force participation rate was at 62.5%.
