Trump orders federal agencies to halt use of Anthropic technology

WASHINGTON

President Donald Trump directed all federal agencies on Friday to immediately cease using technology developed by Anthropic, accusing the artificial intelligence firm of attempting to “strong-arm” the US military and jeopardizing national security.

"The United States of America will never allow a radical left, woke company to dictate how our great military fights and wins wars!" Trump said on his Truth Social platform, adding that the decisions rest with the commander-in-chief and Pentagon leadership.

The president claimed Anthropic made a “disastrous mistake” by allegedly trying to force the Defense Department to comply with its terms of service rather than US law.

He argued that the company’s actions were “putting American lives at risk” and placing troops and national security in jeopardy.

"Therefore, I am directing every Federal Agency in the United States Government to immediately cease all use of Anthropic’s technology. We don’t need it, we don’t want it, and will not do business with them again!" Trump said.

There will be a six-month phase out period for agencies like the Pentagon, which are using Anthropic’s products, he said.

US defense cheif Pete Hegseth announced sweeping restrictions on the Anthropic, declaring the company a “Supply-Chain Risk to National Security” and barring Pentagon contractors from conducting business with the firm.

It follows the directive from Trump.

"Effective immediately, no contractor, supplier, or partner that does business with the United States military may conduct any commercial activity with Anthropic.

"Anthropic will continue to provide the Department of War its services for a period of no more than six months to allow for a seamless transition to a better and more patriotic service," said Hegseth.
