US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday briefed NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on a new peace proposal presented to the Ukrainian delegation in Paris and to Russian officials by phone, according to the State Department.

"The Secretary expressed President Trump’s and the United States’ hopes that this proposal will be accepted and will lead to a durable and lasting peace in Ukraine," spokesperson Tammy Bruce said in the statement.

The top US diplomat "expressed President Trump’s and the United States’ hopes that this proposal will be accepted and will lead to a durable and lasting peace in Ukraine," she added.

Rubio warned Friday that Washington may end its efforts to broker peace in Ukraine if clear progress is not made in the coming days.

“If it is not possible to end the war in Ukraine, we need to move on,” he told reporters, following the peace talks in Paris on Thursday.

Rubio, joined by envoys Keith Kellogg and Steve Witkoff, held talks with top European and Ukrainian officials to discuss ways to end the Ukraine war.
