New York City police commissioner condemns snowball attack on NYPD officers in Washington Square Park
'I want to be very clear: The behavior depicted is disgraceful, and it is criminal,' says Jessica Tisch
WASHINGTON
New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch weighed in Monday on videos showing NYPD officers being hit with snowballs by a large group in Washington Square Park.
The footage showed what appeared to be a large snowball fight that later escalated, with several officers struck by snow during what began as a mass winter gathering after the city experienced blizzard-like conditions.
Videos circulating online captured people throwing snowballs in the direction of uniformed officers who were present in the park.
"The NYPD is aware of certain videos taken earlier today in Washington Square Park showing individuals attacking cops.
"I want to be very clear: The behavior depicted is disgraceful, and it is criminal," Tisch said.
She confirmed that detectives have opened an investigation into the matter.
