Nasdaq falls further after worst daily loss since October

ISTANBUL

The Nasdaq opened with losses Wednesday to decline further, following the worst daily loss since October in the previous session.

The tech-heavy index shed 83 points, or 0.56%, to 14,683 at 9.42 a.m. EDT after plummeting 1.63% on Tuesday.

The S&P 500 fell 23 points, or 0.49%, to 4,719 at the time, while the Dow Jones declined 163 points, or 0.43%, to end the day at 37,549.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, jumped 4.85% to 13.84. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose 1.2% to 3.993%.

The dollar index rose 0.33% to 102.54, while the euro shed 0.26% to $1.0918 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in negative territory with gold losing 1.1% to $2,036 per ounce and silver trimming 2.8% to $22.99.

Oil prices were also in the green, with global benchmark Brent crude rising 1.7% to $77.22 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude adding 1.8% to $71.66.
