McDonald's temporarily closes US offices as it prepares for layoffs: Report

WASHINGTON

McDonald's is temporarily closing its US offices this week as it prepares to lay off an unannounced number of employees as part of a broader company restructuring, a report said Monday.

The Wall Street Journal reported that in an internal email sent to US employees and some international staff last week, the chain instructed them to work from home from Monday through Wednesday to enable virtual delivery of staffing decisions.

The company also requested employees to cancel all in-person meetings with vendors and other external parties at its headquarters.

"During the week of April 3, we will communicate key decisions related to roles and staffing levels across the organization," the company told its employees, as reported by the Journal.

McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski said in January that there were plans to lay off a portion of the company's personnel.
