Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg sues House Republican Jim Jordan over Trump case

NEW YORK

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg filed a lawsuit Tuesday against Republican lawmaker Jim Jordan to prevent interference in the case he is leading against former President Donald Trump.

Bragg accused the House Judiciary Committee and its chairman, Jordan, of launching an "unprecedently brazen and unconstitutional attack" on the criminal prosecution of Trump.

The lawsuit claimed that Jordan "began a transparent campaign to intimidate and attack" Bragg.

Jordan last month demanded Brag's office provide documents about the investigation into Trump and issued a subpoena to former attorney Mark Pomerantz, who worked on Bragg’s investigation of Trump.

Bragg's lawyers are seeking to prevent the Judiciary Committee from subpoenaing Pomerantz.

"Chairman Jordan’s demands, including his subpoena to Mr. Pomerantz, seek highly sensitive and confidential local prosecutorial information that belongs to the Office of the District Attorney and the People of New York," according to the lawsuit. "Basic principles of federalism and common sense, as well as binding Supreme Court precedent, forbid Congress from demanding it".

Bragg charged Trump last week with 34 counts related to his alleged involvement in a scheme to pay "hush money" to adult film star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election.
