Israeli President Isaac Herzog is scheduled to travel to the United States on Monday for an official visit, according to local media on Sunday.

A statement by Herzog's office said the Israeli president will address the US Congress during his visit and will hold various meetings with senior US officials.

The visit is meant "to strengthen the relations and the partnership between the US and Israel and to reflect the deep ties between the two countries," the statement said.

According to the Israel National News website, Herzog will also meet with US President Joe Biden at the White House and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Herzog's visit comes amid tension between the US administration and the Israeli government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Since he came to power in Israel late last year, Netanyahu was not invited by Biden to the White House.
