BOGOTA, Colombia

Over 300 women were killed in 2021 in Honduras, according to a report published Wednesday by the Violence Observatory at the National Autonomous University of Honduras.

The report said 318 women died in the country as a result of the violence they were subjected to.

Noting that a woman dies every 27 hours and 33 minutes, it said more deterrent punishments should be given in order to prevent violence.

The report said 68.9% of women lost their lives by firearms, adding life became more difficult for women, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic confining more women at home.

A statement from the Honduras Center for Women's Studies said that 19 women have been murdered since the beginning of 2022.
