WASHINGTON

The suspect accused of fatally shooting conservative American activist and commentator Charlie Kirk this month carried out extensive online searches and left writings suggesting he planned the attack in advance, the FBI said on Thursday.

In a post on X, Director Kash Patel said investigators recovered evidence indicating “a high degree of pre-attack planning.”

Patel added that the suspect downloaded a document titled “Dallas County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management,” which contained a list of Department of Homeland Security facilities.

Between Sept. 23 and 24, he allegedly conducted multiple online searches related to ballistics and the “Charlie Kirk Shot Video,” according to Patel.

The FBI chief said the bureau remains committed to providing “timely updates” on the case.

Kirk was shot dead on Sept. 10 while speaking during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was arrested shortly after the attack and is currently in custody.
