ISTANBUL

At least 10 people died after a fire engulfed a dormitory at the youth training center of a Brazilian football club on Friday, a local news agency reported.

The victims between age 14-17 were sleeping at the dormitory of the youth team training center of Flamengo football club in Rio de Janeiro when the fire broke out, Agencia Brazil said.

The fire left three others injured with a serious medical condition at the hospital.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Meanwhile, Spanish football giants Real Madrid sympathized with the victims' relatives over the incident.

"Real Madrid F.C. deeply regrets the death of the players and employees of Flamengo because of the fire suffered in their sports city," it said in a statement.

"The club wants to convey its condolences to the relatives and friends of the victims, and wishes a speedy recovery of the injured. Real Madrid shows its solidarity with Flamengo, its fans and Brazilian football," it added.
