The shooter was apprehended at 11.35 am (1535GMT), said FSHAA, later adding that lockdown measures on the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team (2ABCT) area were lifted and that Fort Stewart, Wright Army Airfield, and Evans Army Airfield were "all clear."

"The incident remains under investigation and no additional information will be released until the investigation is complete," said the FSHAA.

According to the media reports, the suspect was identified as Quornelius Radford, who is a US soldier.

Army Secretary Dan Driscoll said the Army is praying for the five soldiers who were shot.

"The suspect is in custody and an investigation is ongoing. My team remains in close contact with Ft. Stewart and is ready to assist with anything they need," Driscoll wrote on X.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp said his office remains "in close contact" with law enforcement on the ground.

"We are keeping the victims, their families, and all those who answer the call to serve in our hearts and prayers, and we ask that Georgians everywhere do the same," Kemp wrote on X.
