NAIROBI, Kenya

Zambian Ambassador to Kenya Brenda Muntemba Sichilembe, who was involved in a grisly road accident in eastern Kenya has succumbed to her injuries, officials said on Wednesday.

Nairobi County Women Representative in parliament Esther Passaris confirmed the death, saying: “I’m saddened by the passing of Zambian High Commissioner to Kenya and women's right advocate, Ambassador Brenda Muntemba-Sichilembe. My heartfelt condolences to her family and friends and to the People of Zambia. Rest in Peace.”

Also confirming her death, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Principal Secretary Macharia Kamau told reporters she died at Nairobi Hospital, where she was being treated.

On Feb. 26, Muntemba had suffered serious injuries along with her Botswana counterpart Duke Lephoko when the car they were travelling met a head-on collision with a truck.

The 49-year old prior to becoming Zambia’s Ambassador to Kenya served as the UNESCO’s chief program officer in Zambia.
