TUNIS, Tunisia

Tunisian has found a tunnel near the French ambassador’s residence in the capital Tunis, the country’s interior ministry said on Wednesday.

In a statement, the ministry said the tunnel was dug in a house frequented by an extremist in the suburb of La Marsa.

The ministry said it has launched an investigation into the incident.

There was no comment from the French ambassador on the report.

Tunisian authorities have thwarted a number of terrorist cells in recent months.

The last major terrorist attack in Tunisia was in March 2016, when the Daesh/ISIS terror group attacked a Tunisian National Guard post in the city of Ben Gardane, killing at least 12 soldiers.
