Rwanda's Mukansanga becomes 1st woman to officiate AFCON match

ANKARA

Rwandan national Salima Mukansanga became the first female referee to officiate a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group match on Tuesday.

Mukansanga, 33, made history by refereeing the Zimbabwe vs. Guinea game in the Cameroonian capital of Yaounde.

Zimbabwe beat Guinea 2-1 in a Group B match at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.

Guinea still qualified for the round of 16 in the tournament, finishing second in the group.

Mukansanga was the fourth official in a previous AFCON match between Guinea and Malawi on Jan. 10.
