One-third of COVID-19 patients in Africa recover
Death toll in Africa rises to 1,467, says Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia
A third of total coronavirus patients in Africa have recovered, said the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s noon updated showed.
According to the update, as many as 33,273 cases of the coronavirus have so far been reported with 10,091 recoveries.
The death toll in the continent rose to 1,467, with North Africa being the worst-hit region, followed by West, Southern, East and Central Africa.
South Africa and Egypt have recorded the highest number of 4,800 cases each. In terms of the death toll, Egypt has 337 in sharp contrast to South Africa’s 90.
Cameroon in Central Africa has so far reported 58 deaths, Somalia in East Africa 26, Algeria in the North a whopping 432, while the western African state of Burkina Faso recorded 42 deaths.
