Police in Nairobi on Monday arrested Treasury Minister Henry Rotich on a corruption charge after an arrest warrant was issued for him.

Rotich is among the 28 top government officials for whom arrest warrants have been issued in a multi-million-dollar “Arror and Kimwarer” dam scandal.

Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji told a news conference on Monday that many legal procedures were ignored by government officials to ensure that certain companies were awarded the construction contracts.

”Investigations established that government officials flouted all procurement rules and abused their oath of office to ensure the scheme went through,” Haji said.

Rotich is being held in the Directorate of Criminal investigations headquarters in the capital Nairobi for questioning.
