Ivanka Trump, the eldest daughter of U.S. President Donald Trump, arrived in the Ethiopian capital on Sunday -- the first leg of her four-day African tour.

Diplomats at the U.S. Embassy, Ethiopian entrepreneurs, and officials welcomed Ivanka Trump, a former clothing entrepreneur who serves as senior adviser to her controversial father.

In addition to Ethiopia, Trump will visit Ivory Coast.

She is in Africa to promote her Women's Global Development and Prosperity initiative, whose stated goal is empowering 50 million women in developing countries by 2025.

In Ethiopia, a major Chinese shoe manufacturer supplied her former shoe line in the U.S.

President Trump has met international criticism for cutting international aid, including to Africa -- a continent that he infamously described using insulting slurs.
