Local health authorities in Oman and Sudan recorded additional fatalities due to the coronavirus pandemic on Tuesday.

In Oman, nine deaths and 846 infections were recorded as well as 1,559 recoveries over the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry said in a statement.

The Gulf state’s tally now rose to 77,904 cases, including 402 deaths, and 58,587 recoveries.

In Sudan, the Health Ministry confirmed five deaths, additional 72 cases and 62 recoveries.

A ministry statement said the new figure takes the number of cases to 11,496, including 725 deaths and 6,001 recoveries.

Since first appearing in China last December, the novel coronavirus has spread to at least 188 countries and regions. The US, Brazil, and Russia are currently the countries hardest hit in the world.

The pandemic has killed over 654,300 people worldwide, with more than 16.49 million confirmed cases including recoveries exceeding 9.59 million, according to figures compiled by the US' Johns Hopkins University.
