ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia

The number of COVID-19 cases in Africa now stands at 2,120,967, according to the Africa CDC’s update on Friday.

At least 50,924 people have died of coronavirus-related complications since February, while 1,791,600 patients have recovered to date, latest data shows.

Southern Africa, with 874,700 cases and 22,900 deaths, is the worst-hit region on the continent.

However, it also has the highest number of recoveries at 794,300.

Some 715,500 cases have been reported in North Africa, 262,500 in East Africa, 203,600 in West Africa, and 64,700 in Central Africa.
