WASHINGTON
The U.S.-led coalition forces conducted nine airstrikes on ISIL targets near the Kurdish populated key Syrian border town of Kobani, U.S. Central Command said Wednesday.
"In Syria, four airstrikes south of Kobani destroyed an ISIL armored personnel carrier, destroyed three ISIL armed vehicles and damaged a fourth, and destroyed an ISIL artillery piece," read a Central Command statement.
Two other strikes in the southwest and southern edge of the town, rocked by the conflicts between ISIL and Kurdish militia groups, destroyed an ISIL armed vehicle and an ISIL artillery piece.
Coalition forces also conducted two airstrikes northwest of Ar-Raqqah, close to Aleppo, destroying an active ISIL training camp while another strike northwest of Dayr az Zawr destroyed an ISIL tank.
The United Arab Emirates participated in the airstrikes.
In Iraq, an airstrike east of Fallujah destroyed an ISIL checkpoint and an armed vehicle.
Two strikes in the northwest and western outskirts of Ramadi destroyed three ISIL-held buildings and damaged two others, destroyed two ISIL anti-aircraft artillery pieces, a unit and a checkpoint belonging to the terror group.
Another airstrike in the northeast Sinjar mountain destroyed an ISIL armed vehicle while a strike on an ISIL vehicle failed, CentCom said.
The Netherlands conducted its first airstrike Tuesday in Iraq, according to the statement.
ISIL terror group elements have plunged into the Kurdish populated towns in northern Syria. The conflict between ISIL and the Kurdish militia group PYD, which is also an offshot of the Kurdish separatist Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, has forced about 200,000 to flee into Turkey.
Nationwide protests broke out in Turkey after ISIL penetrated Kobani, known as Ayn al-Arab, on Monday.
