The UN on Friday expressed its sorrow over the deadly attack on a concert hall in the Russian capital, Moscow.

"We are saddened by the news," UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq told Anadolu, adding that a written statement regarding the incident will be issued.

According to initial reports, the terrorist attack that took place in Krasnogorsk, the administrative center of the Moscow region, resulted in the loss of lives of at least 40 individuals and left more than 100 people injured.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticizing the UN statement, saying UN should be "appalled" not "saddened" over the shooting.

Russia's President Vladimir Putin was briefed on the attack minutes after it began and is receiving continuous updates, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
