LONDON
The U.K.’s Foreign Office summoned Friday Russian Ambassador Alexander Vladimirovich Yakovenko to explain why two Russian jets flew close to its airspace.
The alleged incident caused disruption in the country’s civil aviation, a Foreign Office statement.
The incident is part of an "increasing pattern of out of area operations." However, the Russian aircraft did not violate the U.K.’s airspace, the statement added.
Yakovenko said Russian planes had only performed a routine combat air patrol over the Atlantic Ocean.
