LONDON
Over 200 flood warnings have been issued by the United Kingdom (UK) Met office as the latest storm to hit the country caused widespread travel disruption.
The Met office issued warnings of high winds and flood warnings for many parts of the country. Rail travel has been disrupted because of damaged lines as well as flooding while some roads remain closed.
Arrival trains were put on replacement bus services in Wales due to flooding, with South West trains unable to run between South-West London and Surrey. P and O ferries travelling to Ireland have warned of delays due to severe weather conditions and ferries to the southwest have been cancelled.
Southern England is thought to be the hardest hit by the storm with a warning of gusts of up to 70mph.
The environment agency said that due to “large waves and a storm surge there remains a coastal flood risk for much of the north west, south west and south coasts of England and for parts of the Welsh coast.”
The storms have already claimed three lives in what is considered the worst flooding for decades. Over the past two weeks, hundreds of homes have been flooded and thousands were left without power. The government has come under criticism for not doing enough to help those affected by the floods or for not heeding to climate warnings.
