ANKARA
Turkish Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan received Ertharin Cousin, executive director of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), in Ankara on Monday.
They discussed humanitarian aid for Syrian refugees staying in Turkey as well as Turkey's financial contribution in WFP in 2013.
Caglayan said that the visit of Cousin was a good opportunity to make life conditions of the refugees better.
Noting that a total of 153,000 Syrian refugees were staying in 13 tent sites and one container site in seven provinces of Turkey, Caglayan said that Turkey so far reserved 360 million USD for Syrian refugees.
Meanwhile, Cousin said that they had helped 1.5 million people in Syria so far, adding that it cost nearly 25 million USD monthly.
Cousin thanked Turkey for its generosity and support, noting that they were cooperating with Turkish Red Crescent.
Foreign Minister Davutoglu received WFP director Cousin
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu received Ertharin Cousin, executive director of the United Nations World Food Program, in Ankara.
During the meeting, Cousin appreciated Turkey's humanitarian assistances, and thanked what it did for Syrian refugees.
Cousin said that she would pay a visit to one of the refugee camps in Turkey on Tuesday.
Noting that they were working on what more could be done to help Syrians, Cousin said that WFP was willing to be in closer cooperation with Turkey in every area.
We see our cooperation with Turkey as a model relation and a strategic cooperation, she said.
Meanwhile, Davutoglu said that Turkey wanted to boost cooperation with the UN in every area.
Davutoglu noted that international community should show more interest in helping Syrian refugees.
