JUBA
Turkish Ambassador in Juba Ahmet Ergin said that Turkey opened a consulate general one day before the referendum voting independence of South Sudan, and gave a supportive message to this country.
Ergin told AA on Wednesday that Turkey's relations with Sudan affected its relations with South Sudan positively, adding that Turkey was the single western country which had good relations with both Sudan and South Sudan.
South Sudan held a referendum voting its independence in January 2011.
Ergin said that after South Sudan gained independence, Turkish consulate general was turned into an embassy, and South Sudan also opened an embassy in Turkey's capital Ankara.
Noting that there was a big trade potential between Turkey and South Sudan, Ergin said that Turkish Airlines (THY) decided to hold flights to Juba however firstly technical infrastructure of Juba International Airport should be completed.
When it is completed, THY will be the first western airline company which will fly to Juba, he added.
