ANKARA
Turkey has condemned the militant attack that killed five soldiers in western Tunisia.
Five soldiers were killed on Wednesday when their troop-transport vehicle came under attack in Nebeur, a town in the western Kef province.
Releasing a statement on Saturday, Turkey's Foreign Ministry condemned the attack and pledged solidarity with the people of Tunisia.
"We extend our condolences to the relatives of the victims and wish a fast recovery to those injured," said the statement.
The attack took place less than three weeks before Tunisians elect a new president in polls slated for November 23.
Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki on Thursday declared a day of national mourning Wednesday, and flags were flown at half-mast.
Last week, the Tunisian Interior Ministry announced the arrest of 30 "terrorists" who had allegedly planned to attack state institutions and sabotage the upcoming election.
Over the last several months, Tunisia has witnessed a spate of attacks on police and army personnel.
A July attack on Tunisian troops in the restive Mount Chaambi region near the Algerian border left 14 soldiers dead.
