TUNIS, Tunisia
A Tunisian official said Thursday that authorities had detained 12 people suspected of involvement in last Friday’s attack on a beach in Sousse that left 38 foreign tourists dead.
The official added that the relevant authorities were pursuing two men they believed to be trainers at a camp in Libya linked to the attack’s perpetrator.
Lazhar Akremi, minister for parliament relations, declared in a press statement that investigations being conducted by the interior and justice ministries “remain ongoing.”
“The perpetrators of the Bardo and Sousse operations were trained in Libya,” he added.
Akremi was referring to an attack in March in Tunis’ Bardo National Museum that left 21 foreign tourists dead.
Last Friday, a gunman opened fire on a crowed beach in Sousse, killing 38 foreign tourists – most of whom were British – before being shot dead by police.
