Three people have died as a boat carrying 73 migrants capsized near the northwestern coast of Turkey on Monday, the Turkish coast guard said.

The group, composed of Afghans and Syrian, had sailed from the Ayvacik coast of Canakkale province to reach the nearby Greek island of Lesbos when their boat sank.

Three people, including one woman, drowned.
