BEIJING
Ten building workers were killed Monday when steel supports collapsed at a high school in Beijing, local media reported.
Four others were injured at Tsinghua High School in Haidian, state-run Xinhua news agency reported. The school said that no students or staff were hurt.
Initial findings show that steel bars used to reinforce concrete collapsed at around 08.20 local time (00.20 GMT).
The Beijing Times said workers were constructing a sports center and reported an executive with the construction firm had been detained by police.
Injured workers were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The school remained open and classes were not affected although students remained inside.
