Sudanese President Omer al-Bashir left Khartoum on Monday to Addis Ababa to attend the commemoration of late Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi in the Ethiopian capital.
Imad Sayed Ahmed, the Presidential Press Secretary, told the official Sudan News Agency (SUNA) that Bashir's participation in the service comes within the framework of distinguished relations between Sudan and Ethiopia.
Bashir is reportedly accompanied by Minister of Presidency Affairs Lt. Gen. Bakri Hassan Saleh, Foreign Minister Ali Karti and Director of the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) Gen. Mohamed Atta Al-Mawla Abbas.
The Ethiopian Foreign Ministry said the presidents of Sudan, Uganda, Somalia, and Rwanda will attend the commemoration of Zenawi in the capital, Addis Ababa.
Envoys from South Africa and Kenya are also expected to attend.
Zenawi died last year in Brussels where he was being treated for an undisclosed illness.
He was 57.
