LAGOS, Nigeria
The death toll from Wednesday evening’s helicopter crash in Lagos has risen to six, after Nigerian emergency responders pulled out two more bodies from the lagoon where the aircraft had tumbled.
“We just recovered the two remaining bodies this morning. There were 12 persons on board the aircraft, including two crew members and 10 passengers,” Ibrahim Farinlokun, spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency, told Anadolu Agency. “Six persons were rescued alive yesterday, while four dead bodies were recovered. Casualties are now six.”
The aircraft, a Sikorsky S -76C+ owned by Bristow Helicopter Limited, was returning from an oil drilling rig in southwestern Ondo state.
It crashed into the lagoon shortly before landing at Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.
