PESHAWAR, Pakistan
Twin blasts in a Peshawar cinema killed four people and wounded 31 others Sunday evening, police said.
"Unidentified assailants hurled two hand grenades into a cinema at around 9:30 pm, killing four people and injuring 31 others," Faisal Mukhtar, a senior Peshawar police official, told Anadolu Agency (AA).
Around 100 men were in the cinema watching a film when the bombings took place, Mukhtar said.
Mohammad Arshad, a doctor at Lady Reading Hospital, said the death toll could rise as several people suffered serious injuries.
"I was busy watching the film when I heard the first blast. It was huge. I think it (the grenade) probably landed in the back of the theater," Mohammad Ismail, a viewer in his mid-20s told reporters, while being treated for injuries to his arms and leg.
"Within ten seconds, a second grenade landed right in the middle of the room. It (second) was also a huge blast that knocked me to the ground. It was very confusing... people were running over me trying to save their lives," Ismail added.
The attack occurred in Peshawar’s only cinema.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Pakistani Taliban spokesman Shahidullah Shahid told local station Geo TV that the group was not involved in the attack.
The blasts came hours after the Taliban announced the formation of a political Shura (consultative body) to pursue proposed peace talks with the government.
