RAMALLAH
A Palestinian young man late on Monday was gunned down by an Israeli settler near the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah, an eyewitness said.
He said the Palestinian young man was killed near Hizma barrier between the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem City.
The eyewitness added that the victim, a resident of the suburbs of Jerusalem, was on the way home from work.
He said the Israeli settler had suddenly stopped and shot at the Palestinian young man, killing him on the spot, and then ran away.
The head of Ramallah Medical Centre, Ahmed al-Beitawi, meanwhile, said the body of the victim was brought to the hospital, but there were no identification papers in his possession.
Anadolu Agency could not immediately obtain comments from Israeli authorities on the incident.
Tensions are high in the Palestinian territories on the background on the current Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
Since July 7, at least 573 Palestinians have been killed – mostly civilians – and more than 3400 injured in unrelenting Israeli attacks on the besieged coastal enclave.
Sunday was the deadliest day yet of Israel's two-week-long onslaught, with at least 110 Palestinians – including 72 in Shujaya, a residential area of eastern Gaza City – killed by Israeli air and artillery attacks.
Israel's military operation, dubbed "Operation Protective Edge," is the self-proclaimed Jewish state's third major offensive against the densely-populated Gaza Strip – which is home to some 1.8 million Palestinians – within the last six years.
