ALEPPO (AA) – July 29, 2012 – Suveybe Kanafani, the only woman soldier of Free Syrian Army (FSA), joined the army from Canada.
Incidents in Syria obliged me to wear the uniform, Kanafani told AA on Sunday.
Kanafani, who is married with two children and was a petroleum engineer in Canada, said that she participated in Syrian revolution via social networks on the first days of peaceful demonstrations.
My sorrow and anger increased as the massacres increased in Syria, said Kanafani, adding that she arrived in Syria and joined FSA.
Expressing belief that joining FSA was the only way to end al-Assad regime, Kanafani said that she had never thought of wearing a military uniform but what happened in Syria obliged her to do so.
Kanafani said that her friends in Canada supported her decision, adding that women had an important role in the revolution in Syria.
