Iraqi President Jalal Talabani's health condition is improving, an Iraqi doctor said Thursday, denying earlier reports that the 79-year-old Kurdish statesman had passed away.
"His health is improving in a noticeable manner," Najmaldin Karim, governor of Kirkuk and the only one authorized to talk about the Iraqi president's health condition, told Anadolu Agency.
He added that Talabani had managed to drive his car on the streets of German capital Berlin last week.
Talabani was flown to Germany last December in critical condition for treatment.
Karim stressed that the Iraqi president was no longer in danger, describing earlier reports of his death as "totally baseless."
A neurologist by profession, Karim says he is in continuous contact with the German hospital at which Talabani is being treated.
